About A/Prof Anthony Camuglia

A/Prof Camuglia grew up in Brisbane and then attended medical school at Monash University in Melbourne where he graduated with first class honours in 2005.  He completed his internship and basic physician training at The Alfred Hospital, Melbourne before moving back to Queensland with his wife and undertook advanced physician training in cardiology at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and The Prince Charles Hospital.  Subsequent to this he completed a procedural Fellowship in interventional cardiology at University Hospital, London Health Sciences Centre, Western University in Ontario, Canada.  He also holds a Master of Health of Administration from Monash University.

A/Prof Camuglia co-founded the transcatheter heart valve programs at The Wesley Hospital and Princess Alexandra Hospital in 2014.  He holds an academic appointment with the University of Queensland as an Associate Professor and is heavily involved in the training and teaching of medical students, junior doctors and trainee cardiologist.  He is a site principal investigator for several clinical trials for the management of patients with valvular heart disease and other cardiac diseases.  He is a senior staff specialist in the Division of Heart Lung and Critical Care at Princess Alexandra Hospital and an accredited visiting medical practitioner at The Wesley Hospital.  He is a steering committee member for the Queensland Cardiac Clinical Network as well as chair of the structural heart disease sub-committee.  He is a member of the national Australian Cardiac Outcomes Registry steering committee for transcatheter valvular therapies (TVT).  A/Prof Camuglia and the Wesley Heart Team performed the first fully percutaneous transcatheter mitral valve replacement for native mitral valve disease in Queensland in 2020.

A/Prof Camuglia privately consults and performs cardiac procedures at The Wesley Hospital, Auchenflower, Brisbane.  He lives in Brisbane with his wife and four children.
