Dr Wiemers is a clinical cardiologist with subspecialty training in advanced echocardiography including stress echocardiography and structural transoesophageal echocardiography. He has particular interests in general and preventative cardiology, as well as advanced and structural echocardiography, including stress echocardiography and TOE-guided structural interventions.
Dr Wiemers attended the University of Queensland Medical School graduating with First Class Honours in 2005. He has significant experience in both the surgical and medical management of cardiac disease, initially undertaking a substantial period of accredited training in cardiothoracic surgery before making the decision to change paths and embark upon cardiology training. He completed his advanced training in cardiology at The Prince Charles Hospital in 2021, attaining Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. He subsequently completed two further years of subspecialty training in advanced and structural echocardiography at The Prince Charles Hospital.
During his training Dr Wiemers completed an MPhil at the University of Queensland investigating cardiovascular outcomes in Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. He has published multiple studies in peer-reviewed journals and is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Queensland.
Dr Wiemers holds staff specialist appointments at both The Prince Charles and Logan Hospitals and is a Visiting Medical Officer at the Wesley Hospital. He consults at the Wesley Hospital where he also offers a comprehensive range of cardiac diagnostic services.
