Dr Sean Nguyen is an experienced Clinical and Imaging cardiologist with special interests in echocardiography, stress echocardiography and cardiac CT, including CT coronary angiography (CTCA) and calcium scoring.
Originally from Canada, Sean graduated with Honours in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Ottawa before moving to Australia in 2009. He was awarded his medical degree at the University of Queensland and completed his residency and physician training at Ipswich Hospital and Princess Alexandra Hospital respectively.
From 2017 to 2019 Sean completed advanced training in Cardiology at Princess Alexandra Hospital and Cairns Hospital. After being awarded his Cardiology Fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, he completed a multimodality cardiac imaging fellowship at Princess Alexandra Hospital. During his fellowship, he obtained the highest level of CTCA qualification recognised by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiology (Level B).
Sean is passionate about supporting the health literacy of his patients and always seeks to provide them with a full understanding of their medical condition and how the treatment plan he has devised will help them.
He is committed to teaching, and is a primary supervisor for Cardiology Advanced Trainees with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, as well as an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the James Cook University School of Medicine and Dentistry.
Before joining the Queensland Heart Specialists team, Sean was based in Cairns with Northern Heart Specialists for five years. He and his wife Hannah, a GP, and their young family enjoyed the Far North’s outdoor lifestyle and look forward to more of the same in sunny Brisbane.
